In the winter woods near Moscow continues to experiment in the preparation of volunteers to participate in the 105-day simulation, the flight to Mars. The first international five have already successfully passed the test of survival in the cold.
According to at the Institute of Biomedical Problems (IMBP) Russian Academy of Sciences, the first experiment, participants replaced the next group of five people, consisting of two Frenchmen and 25-year-old Rossiyanka, physiologist Tugusheva Marina. Also in the team of volunteers consists of two more Russian - Sergey Spitsa physician and cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev.
The first crew commanded by cosmonaut Sergei Ryazan, which consisted of two other Russians - Alexei Baranov and Alexey Shpakov as well as French airman Cyril Fournier and Oliver Knikkel German engineer, was left for two days in the woods when the temperature -20 degrees without regard to civilization.
The most experienced, have wintered in the forest, was 34-year-old member squad of cosmonauts Sergei Ryazansky. Therefore, for 4 of its satellites, reportedly arrived in the Red Planet, he became an informal leader, said the MC.
On the first day of tests, volunteers have built wickiup, divorced around the fire and to sleep in the snow. If you imagine they were just average margin of Astronauts and the lander from the parachute, two knives, machetes, matches and dry alcohol. To drink tea or to make dehydrated soups and porridge, "Martians" had to melt snow in a special . Wash was only snow. A fire that is not out or you do not accidentally spread to sleep, on duty at a time.
On the second day subjects settled more comfortably - from sticks and twigs, they built a kind of wigwam and divorced a fire inside the home. On the morning of the third parties that received the signal from the rescuers who were nominated to the place of the meeting. However, the movement is complicated by the fact that a crew member on the script broke his leg, and the rest had to give him first aid and pulled a few kilometers on its own.
As reported in IMBP, the survival rate after five all feel heartily, they feel good. Throughout the test the health of astronauts is constantly monitored through a system of remote medical monitoring, which was tested at the South Pole.
The second five volunteers more fortunate - frost in the suburbs weakened, but heavy snowfall can be an additional test.
In late March, selected from ten applicants, six people will start their 105-day "flight" in a special medical-technological complex IMBP, where the conditions closest to those in which people are at real flight to Mars. This will be a preliminary experiment, the beginning of the main, 520-day study, scheduled for late 2009 - early 2010.
The aim of the project Mars-500, which is being implemented with the participation of Roscosmos and the Russian Academy of Sciences, is to acquire practical experience in preparation for a real flight to Mars. Scientific research conducted within its framework, should help to assess the impact of isolation, an enclosed space and the stress on the various psychological and physiological aspects.
