Four people died and seventeen were reported missing in sinking of a boat of illegal immigrants who attempted to dock the French island of Mayotte on the night of Thursday 20 to Friday November 21, it was learned from the prefecture . Twelve people were rescued.
The boat, known locally as "-Kwassa Kwassa" and carrying illegal immigrants from Comoros, sank while attempting to cross the Barrier Reef in the southern island of Mayotte. Thirty-three people including twenty-six adults and seven children were on board at the time of the sinking, according to testimony of survivors. A fisherman in the area of the sinking was able to save eight people and gave the alert.
All night, a star of the border police and another of the gendarmerie and the ship of the Coast Guard were sent to the area and managed to recover four other people. At daybreak, the air assets were deployed to support the search for other possible survivors. Of the seventeen missing, it has fourteen adults and five children. Twelve people were rescued, including a child, were taken to hospital in Little Earth.
